My Profile - Amunet
Many Bellydance performers and teachers choose to take a stage name. When I first started to perform I started to think of one. I wanted a name that would mean something to me. I choose Amunet, the priestess of Hator, the ancient goddess of love. Amunet was a priestess of Hathor, the ancient Egyptian goddess of love. In 1891, archeologists discovered her mummified remains near Thebes. She lived sometime between 2160 BC and 1994 BC.
Amunet’s mummy was very well preserved, and her body clearly displayed tattoos of lines and dots tattooed on the arms and thighs. She also had an elliptical design tattooed below her belly button. As I have a very distinguishing tattoo myself I felt the name was well suited.
I am available to teach Workshops, Private Lessons and Hen Parties in Galway or anywhere in the Country. I regularly dance at Functions such as Weddings, Christmas Parties and Corporate Events either as a Solo Performer or with my Troupe the Shimmy Sisters.
I am over 10 years training in Egyptian Bellydance and over the years I have developed my own dance and work on defining the different styles I perform. I perform Egyptian Classical, Baladi and Folk dances . I also perform Turkish Gypsy, Flamenco-Arabic Fusion, Bollywood and Hula. For the last 6 years I have taught regular classes here in Galway City and Workshops around the country. I have trained students from complete Beginners to Intermediate Dancers, some of these now perform themselves.
