About me & Egyptian Dance

I first started Belly Dancing in 1999 after being involved in a car crash as it was recommended to me to help strengthen my back.

I quickly became hooked and wanted to learn as much as I could about this dance form.

Growing up I always loved all styles of dance and learned Classical, Waltz and Irish Dancing as a child. I was always trying to emulate Fred Astair and Ginger Rogers on the television. My formal dance training before bellydancing was in Disco, in which I won several awards including representing Galway (my home town) in the Malibu Ireland Disco Dancing Championships. When my Bellydance Teacher stopped teaching I continued learning and teaching myself by watching dance videos of Famous Egyptian Dancers and instruction videos. As there was no one teaching in Galway I travelled to Dublin and England for classes and workshops.

In 2002 I started to teach Basic Bellydance for Beginners while continuing my own training. In 2005 I applied and auditioned for the JWAAD Teacher Training Diploma, London and was lucky enough to be one of the 12 students accepted.

This was a 2 year intensive Egyptian Dance course which I have now completed. The course has helped developed my own dance and deepened my knowledge and understanding of all aspects of Egyptian Dance. I trained in teaching techniques, anatomy and safe warm ups. Interpretation of Arabic Music, History and Culture and advancing my own dance level.

I travel several time a year to England to Festivals and Workshops to take classes with famous teachers and dancers such as Prof. Hassan Khalil, Yasmina of Cairo, Randa Kamil, Rakkia Hassan and many top teacher from the UK, Germany and France. I have also traveled to both Turkey and Egypt to take lessons.

I currently teach Beginners, Improver and Intermediate Bellydance Classes. I teach Classical, Baladi, Folk and Saidi styles. My students learn to use veils, zills and sticks. They are taught choreography music interpretation and how to identify the different styles.

I also teach Flamenco Arabic Fusion, Gypsy Dance, Bellydance Aerobics, Bollywood, Belly Burlesque and Basic Hula Dance.

Every year I host a show for my students. Teachers and other dancers from around the country to perform at. I invite a Top Name Teachers to give workshops during the day and perform at the show that night. The next show will be in May 08.
